EPCHS' first ever "Hunger Games" Challenge
Hunger Games tributes await the start of the first challenge - "The Tracker Jacker Trivia Challenge"
Second Challenge
President Snow's Sharp Shooter Challenge
The remaining 7 tributes competed to see who could get the closest to hitting President Snow using a Nerf gun as the "weapon." Tribute Crystal Quinonez (pictured below) from District 10 had the secret item in her bag worth 10 bonus points. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Michelle Estand from District 12 at the end of the day.

Panem Perfection Puzzle Challenge causes another tribute to be eliminated.
During the Panem Perfection Puzzle Challenge, tributes had to complete an online puzzle of Panem. The tribute that took the longest was eliminated. Sadly, District 10 lost it's first tribute - Crystal Quinonez was eliminated. The tribute with the fastest time was from District 11 - Katie Hohman finished the puzzle in 11:30 seconds, plus she had the bonus item in her bag, a computer mouse, which allowed her to have 30 seconds deducted from her time.

A big thank you to Bristol Eastern Library for coming up with these wonderful challenges.

First "parachute" sent from a sponsor.
Katie Hohman was the lucky recipient of the first "parachute." This lovely surprise was delivered to her during class today and will be needed for today's challenge - "Capitol Cake Creation Challenge."
Challenge 4 - Capitol Cake Creation Challenge
The 5 remaining tributes decorated 8" round cakes to represent something from any of the Hunger Games books. The results were amazing, but sadly, one tribute had to be eliminated. Even though Effie Trinkett had not "perfected" the scoring system, the system did still work to eliminate one tribute. It was with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to the final tribute from District 9 - Caitlin Gunty.
Frantic Fortune Frenzy Challenge - Challenge #5
The remaining 4 tributes competed in a Wheel of Fortune style challenge. There were 4 puzzles to solve and we played in the spirit of the official Wheel of Fortune board game. The tribute with the most $$ won. For this challenge, Scott had the bonus item, a fortune cookie, which gave him an addition $250 that was added to his final tally. Alexus came in 4th, but she chose to use her "save" card and therefore, that eliminated the 3rd place tribute, Katie. She was a tough competitor and will be missed. The 6th challenge, "Cina's Crazy Capitol Cosmetic Creations" will occur Thursday in the LRC. Tributes must "make-up" their faces in true Capitol fashion. Students and staff members are allowed to vote for the tribute who most closely resembles a citizen of the capitol.
Second "parachute" sent from a sponsor
Annie Gortowski from District 12 was the lucky receipent of a "parachute." The parachute was delivered to Annie during her 2nd block class. The item contained within the parachute will assist her in today's challenge - "Cina's Crazy Capitol Cosmetics Challenge." Congratulations Annie, and to the remaining tributes from Districts 10 and 11, "may the odds be ever in your favor."
"Cina's Crazy Capitol Cosmetic Creations" Challenge
Our 3 remaining tributes from Districts 10, 11, and 12 in order from left to right pictured here prior to the challenge. The tributes were given 25 minutes to "make-up" their faces like a citizen from the Capitol. Each tribute was given a Halloween make-up kit to ensure that everyone had the same supplies. Upon completion, students and staff voted on a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner. Annie from District 12 was the winner, Scott from District 10 came in 2nd place, and Alexus from District 11 took 3rd. Therefore, it was with a heavy heart that we had to say good-bye to Alexus.
The FINAL Challenge
The final two tributes - Annie Gortowski from District 12 and Scott Mutnansky from District 10, competed Friday October 12, 2012 in a Hunger Games scavenger hunt.
1st stop - Destroy a tracker jacker nest.
Tributes met Ms. Tsoukatos on athletic field to start the scavenger hunt. They were given an apron and goggles to protect themselves as they destroyed a tracher jacker nest. Once the nest was destroyed, the tracker jacker revealed the next place for them to report, room 104.
2nd stop - Hunger Games math challenge
In room 104 - Mr. Smith monitored the tributes as they answered Hunger Games inspired math problems. They had to get 4 out of 5 correct in order to receive an envelope with their next location, the art courtyard.

3rd stop - Archery challenge
The tributes raced from Mr. Smith's room to the art courtyard where they met Mrs. Safranek and Mrs. McArthur for the archery challange. Each tribute had 3 chance to shoot a toy arrow through a hula-hoop. After 3 attempts, or if they made it through the target (whichever came first), a parachute was thrown from a 2nd floor classroom by Mrs. McDonald which contained the next room assignment, room 402.
4th stop - Hunger Games Inspired Poem
After the archery challenge, the tributes proceed to room 402 where Mr. Mikulskis watched over as the tributes created Hunger Games inspired cinquains. The following website was on a computer and the tribute had to create a cinquain that not only made sense but related to the Hunger Games. http://ettcweb.lr.k12.nj.us/forms/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/cinquain.htm.
Once Mr. Mikulskis approved their poem, each tribute was handed an envelope with the final location - the LRC!
