"What's Around Town" Event Day 1 of PSAE Testing
On April 23rd following a morning of PLAN and Explore testing, the freshman and sophomore classes participated in an afternoon event entitled, “What’s Around Town” which was designed to introduce the freshman and sophomores to the ethnic diversity that the city of Chicago offers. Students were given passports to help guide them through their tour of some different neighborhoods of Chicago. Jessica Mitchell from Pace bus services provided students with maps and explained to the students how they could visit the different neighborhoods using public transportation. The National Hellenic Museum of Greektown had an interactive display that explained the history of the Greek culture in the city of Chicago. The Beverly Area Planning Association was at hand to give students a true history of how the Beverly Neighborhood grew into the neighborhood it is today on the city’s south side. Students learned how to do origami bunnies with help from seniors Colin Allpow and Koren Castillo as a means of showcasing Chinatown. At the Little Village table, senior Dan Schaffrath helped students decorated wooden maracas. There was a “rest stop” area where senior Meghan Kress served Italian Ice from the Little Italy neighborhood. Students also received a fortune cookie compliments of Chi Tung.
